Sirro urges Sabasaba visitors to embrace preventive healthcare at Muhimbili pavilion

Kigoma Regional Commissioner Simon Sirro has called on Tanzanians attending the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba) to take advantage of free health screening services offered by Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), saying early diagnosis remains one of the most effective tools for reducing the burden of disease.

After undergoing a medical check-up during a visit to the hospital's exhibition pavilion on Monday, Sirro said many serious illnesses could be successfully treated if detected at an early stage, making routine health screening an essential part of preventive healthcare.

"Health is the greatest investment anyone can make. People should not fear medical screening because when a disease is detected early, the chances of successful treatment are much higher and patients are able to continue with their normal lives," Sirro said.

"When illnesses are discovered at advanced stages, treatment becomes more complicated and costly. I therefore encourage every Tanzanian visiting Sabasaba to stop by the Muhimbili pavilion and take advantage of these important services."

His remarks underscore the government's growing emphasis on shifting the healthcare system from one that primarily treats illness to one that prioritises prevention, early diagnosis and public awareness.

Sirro also praised Muhimbili National Hospital for extending specialised and super-specialised medical services beyond its main facilities, describing the hospital's participation in the trade fair as an important step towards bringing quality healthcare closer to citizens.

"I had the opportunity to undergo a health examination here, including a Full Blood Picture test and other diagnostic services. I have been impressed by the professionalism of the medical team and the quality of services being offered to the public. Muhimbili deserves recognition for this important work," he said.

At this year's Sabasaba exhibition, Muhimbili is providing a wide range of specialised healthcare services, including comprehensive medical screening, expert consultations and public health education.

Medical specialists are also using the platform to raise awareness about non-communicable diseases, lifestyle-related illnesses and the importance of regular medical check-ups.

The hospital's participation reflects a broader national strategy to improve access to quality healthcare by taking services directly to communities while encouraging citizens to seek preventive care before illnesses become life-threatening.

The initiative is also aligned with the implementation of Tanzania's National Development Vision 2050, which places strong emphasis on universal access to quality healthcare, disease prevention and early diagnosis as critical pillars for building a healthier and more productive population.
