Tanzanian giants Simba SC and defending champions Singida Black Stars have been handed challenging assignments after being drawn in Group B of the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, while Zanzibar’s KVZ FC landed in a tough Group C.
The draw for the regional club championship was conducted on July 10, 2026, in Kigali, Rwanda, with the tournament scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 7, 2026.
Simba SC and Singida Black Stars will battle for a place in the knockout stage against Mogadishu City Club of Somalia and Jamus FC of South Sudan in Group B, setting the stage for an exciting regional contest.
Singida Black Stars enter the competition with added pressure after being crowned CECAFA Kagame Cup champions in 2025 during the tournament held in Dar es Salaam.
The Tanzanian side will be looking to defend its title against a strong field of clubs from East and Central Africa.
For Simba, the competition offers an opportunity to reaffirm its dominance beyond domestic football and compete against some of the region’s leading clubs.
KVZ FC, meanwhile, faces one of the toughest groups after being placed in Group C alongside Sudanese powerhouse Al Hilal, Rwanda’s Rayon Sports and Kenya’s Tusker FC.
Tusker earned a place in the tournament after replacing Sudanese club El Merriekh, which withdrew from the competition.
Group A will feature hosts APR FC of Rwanda, Uganda’s Vipers SC, Kenya’s Gor Mahia and Djibouti’s Garde Républicaine, creating another competitive pool of teams with ambitions of reaching the latter stages.
The 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup is expected to attract significant attention across the region as clubs compete for one of East and Central Africa’s most prestigious football titles.
With Tanzanian clubs making a strong presence in the tournament, expectations will be high for Simba, Singida Black Stars and KVZ as they aim to showcase the country’s growing influence in regional football.
