The Rural Energy Board (REB) has commended the Rural Energy Agency (REA) for the progress made in implementing rural electrification and clean cooking energy projects, saying the initiatives are transforming livelihoods and supporting Tanzania's broader development agenda.
The commendation came on Saturday, July 5, during a visit by members of the board to REA's pavilion at the ongoing 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba) at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Grounds.
During the tour, REA officials briefed the board on the implementation of electricity distribution projects extending power to rural hamlets that had previously remained unconnected to the national grid.
The board also received updates on programmes promoting clean cooking energy technologies in rural communities as part of the government's drive to expand access to modern, affordable and environmentally friendly energy.
The board expressed satisfaction with the pace of implementation, noting that the projects are improving access to electricity, stimulating rural economic activities and enhancing the quality of life for households, schools, health facilities and small businesses.
Members of the board encouraged REA to sustain the momentum in implementing the projects to ensure that more Tanzanians benefit from reliable electricity and clean cooking solutions.
They also called on citizens, particularly those living in rural areas, to take advantage of opportunities created by the government's rural energy programmes by embracing clean cooking technologies and participating in electrification initiatives designed to accelerate local economic development.
REA is using the Sabasaba exhibition to showcase its achievements in expanding electricity access, promoting renewable energy technologies and raising public awareness of the benefits of clean cooking solutions.
The agency's pavilion has continued to attract visitors seeking information on electricity connections, ongoing rural energy projects and the government's initiatives to achieve universal access to modern energy services.
