Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has directed the Ministry of Works to speed up the construction of ongoing tarmac roads in Mara Region, emphasizing that timely completion of the projects is crucial for improving transport, trade, and the overall livelihoods of citizens.

He issued the directive in Mugumu Town, Serengeti District, during his five-day working visit to Mara Region, where he is inspecting development projects and engaging with wananchi on key challenges affecting service delivery.

Dr. Nchemba said that after the government successfully completed major strategic infrastructure projects across the country, the current focus is now on expanding and improving regional and district road networks, with Mara Region among the priority areas.

He highlighted key road projects as Sanzate–Nata (40 km), Tarime–Mugumu (25 km), and Nyamongo–Mugumu, instructing contractors to increase the pace of work to ensure completion within agreed timelines.

“I want to assure citizens that all funds collected through the Road Fund will be directed fully toward the completion of these road projects,” said Dr. Nchemba, stressing government commitment to improving infrastructure.

Deputy Minister for Works, Engineer Godfrey Kasekenya, said the government’s long-term plan is to ensure all regions and districts in Tanzania are connected by reliable tarmac roads to boost economic activities such as tourism, mining, fisheries, and livestock keeping.

He said implementation of key projects will continue in the 2026/2027 financial year, including the Tarime Urban–Mogabiri road (9.3 km), where the contractor has already signed the agreement and works are ongoing.

He also noted that the Mogabiri–Nyamongo road (25 km) is being implemented by a local contractor, with 15 km already completed and construction continuing on the remaining section.

Engineer Kasekenya added that the Nyamongo–Mugumu road is being constructed by Stakle Company, alongside feeder roads. Upon completion, the road will be equipped with street lighting to ensure safe use both during the day and at night.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Mara Region continues, with a focus on monitoring development projects and addressing challenges raised by citizens.
