The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has issued a banking licence to LOLC Tanzania Microfinance Bank Limited, allowing the institution to officially operate as a microfinance bank in the country as efforts continue to expand access to financial services.
According to a public notice signed by the Deputy Governor for Financial Stability and Deepening, Sauda K. Msemo, the licence took effect from June 11, 2026, authorising the institution to conduct microfinance banking business under the supervision of the central bank.
The new licence is expected to strengthen financial inclusion by improving access to credit and other financial services, particularly for small businesses and individuals who rely on microfinance solutions to support economic activities and livelihoods.
The bank’s Head Office is located at Plot No. 11 Block 45A, Mezzanine and 1st Floor, Derm Complex, Kijitonyama in Dar es Salaam.
The move is part of the Bank of Tanzania’s broader strategy to maintain financial stability while deepening access to formal financial services across the country through regulated institutions such as Bank of Tanzania.
