The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has invested TZS 4.5 billion in the construction of a modern administrative building for the Serengeti District Council, aimed at improving public service delivery and strengthening local government operations in Mugumu.

Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, inspected the progress of the construction of the Council Administration Building during his five-day working visit to the Mara Region.

The inspection is part of his broader tour of the region aimed at assessing the implementation of development projects, engaging with citizens, and reviewing service delivery performance across government institutions.

According to Architect Nicholas Jeje from the Tanzania Building Agency (TBA) in Mara Region, the project is being implemented by the Tanzania Building Agency and is fully funded by the Government of Tanzania.

Construction works began on April 10, 2025, and are expected to be completed on April 9, 2028.

He said the project has reached 42 percent completion, indicating steady progress on site despite the scale of the construction works.

Once completed, the building will house 62 offices, including offices for the Council Director and the Council Chairperson.

It will also include two conference halls with capacities of 50 and 110 people respectively, designed to improve coordination meetings and administrative efficiency.

Mara Regional Commissioner, Kanali Evans Mtambi, welcomed the Prime Minister to the region, noting that the visit will cover all six districts, nine councils, and ten constituencies in Mara Region.

He said the tour provides an important opportunity for the Prime Minister to inspect ongoing development projects, evaluate progress, and engage directly with citizens on development priorities and service delivery challenges.

The government has continued to invest in modern administrative infrastructure as part of its broader strategy to strengthen local governance systems and improve efficiency in public service delivery across the country.
