Leaders of political parties in Mbeya have jointly called on residents to maintain peace, unity and public order, assuring the public that no demonstrations have been planned in the region.
The leaders made the remarks on Monday during a consultative meeting with the Mbeya Regional Police, chaired by Regional Police Commander Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Benjamin Kuzaga.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between political stakeholders and security agencies to preserve peace and stability.
Speaking after the meeting, Hamadi Mbeyale, Regional Secretary of the Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), said his party had neither organised nor endorsed any demonstrations in Mbeya.
"We have not organised any demonstrations. We urge residents to remain calm and continue with their daily activities without fear or uncertainty," he said.
The Regional Secretary of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Langael Akyoo, said representatives from the political parties had reached a common understanding that no demonstrations were scheduled in the region.
He said the agreement should reassure residents, encouraging them to continue with their businesses, employment and other economic activities without concern.
Meanwhile, Ipyana Samson, Mbeya Regional Chairperson of CHAUMA, urged political leaders to promote peace among their supporters and within the wider community.
He called for respect for the rule of law and condemned acts of violence and unlawful demonstrations, saying political leaders have a responsibility to foster harmony and social cohesion.
The Mbeya Regional Police said security agencies would continue to strengthen measures to protect lives and property across the region.
The force also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities by providing information that could help prevent crime and enable timely legal action against offenders.
The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by political parties and security agencies in Mbeya to maintain a peaceful environment as residents go about their daily social and economic activities.
