The government has stepped up efforts to position Pande Game Reserve as a key tourism destination for visitors expected during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with senior officials directing that ongoing infrastructure projects be completed on time.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Hassan Abbasi, inspected the progress of tourism development projects at the reserve on Thursday, stressing the need for timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
The projects include a swimming pool, children's recreational facilities, a mini football pitch and a beach volleyball court, all aimed at improving the visitor experience and expanding recreational opportunities at the reserve.
Dr Abbasi said the facilities are part of broader preparations to receive thousands of international and domestic visitors expected during AFCON 2027, which Tanzania will co-host with Kenya and Uganda.
He noted that beyond the tournament, the investments are expected to strengthen the country's tourism infrastructure and create lasting value for local communities and the economy.
"The facilities must be completed on schedule and meet the required standards so that visitors can enjoy the unique attractions available at Pande Game Reserve," he said during the inspection.
The upgrades are intended to diversify tourism experiences around Dar es Salaam by offering nature-based recreation within easy reach of the city, helping extend visitors' stays and increase tourism spending.
Situated about 45 kilometres from central Dar es Salaam, Pande Game Reserve is one of the country's protected natural areas and is being developed into a flagship eco-tourism destination.
The reserve is expected to play an important role in showcasing Tanzania's wildlife and conservation efforts to football fans and tourists visiting the country during AFCON 2027.
