Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation Board of Trustees Chairperson, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, has received a Board Leadership Award in recognition of her role in guiding the institution as it marks two decades of service.

Vice-President Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi presented the award on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the Fourth Benjamin Mkapa Legacy Forum and the foundation's 20th anniversary celebrations held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking after receiving the award, Ambassador Mulamula thanked government leaders, development partners and other stakeholders for participating in the forum, saying their support reflects a shared commitment to preserving the legacy of Tanzania's third-phase President, the late Benjamin William Mkapa.

She said the foundation's Board of Trustees would continue working closely with the management and partners to advance the institution's objectives, particularly in strengthening healthcare systems and supporting community development programmes.

Ambassador Mulamula also acknowledged the governments of President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Zanzibar President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi for their continued support in recognising and promoting the legacy of the late President Mkapa.

Addressing the forum, President Mwinyi said safeguarding Mkapa's legacy requires sustained investment in ethical leadership, resilient health systems and youth empowerment, describing these as critical pillars for Africa's long-term development.

In remarks delivered on behalf of President Samia, Vice-President Dr Nchimbi said the government continues to value the late President Mkapa's contribution to Tanzania's development, particularly in improving public health.

He said Mkapa championed reforms that strengthened the country's response to communicable and non-communicable diseases, including the establishment of the Tanzania Commission for AIDS (TACAIDS), which remains a key institution in the national HIV/AIDS response.

The Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation has, over the past 20 years, implemented programmes aimed at improving access to healthcare, strengthening health systems and supporting the development of the health workforce across Tanzania.
