The Mining Commission has issued a public notice urging miners across the country to strictly observe health, safety and environmental standards, especially during the ongoing rainy season, as part of efforts to protect lives and ensure sustainable mining activities.
In the notice released on January 2, 2026, the Commission cautioned that heavy rainfall increases the risk of mine accidents, including pit collapses, flooding and environmental damage.
Miners have been advised to remain alert and take preventive measures to reduce dangers linked to weather-related hazards.
The Commission stressed that compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements is essential for protecting workers and surrounding communities, while also preserving the environment.
It noted that unsafe practices not only endanger lives but also threaten the long-term sustainability of the mining sector.
According to the Commission, the safety of individual miners plays a crucial role in strengthening productivity and supporting the growth of the mining industry, which is a key contributor to the national economy.
Responsible mining operations, it said, help maintain steady production and safeguard incomes for thousands of Tanzanians who depend on the sector.
The notice was issued by the Executive Secretary of the Mining Commission, Eng. Ramadhani M. Lwamo, from the Commission’s headquarters in Dodoma.
Miners and other stakeholders have been encouraged to seek further guidance through the Commission’s official email, info@tumemadini.go.tz, or by visiting www.tumemadini.go.tz.
The Mining Commission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safe, responsible and environmentally friendly mining practices, and called on all miners to make safety a top priority during the rainy season.
