Dodoma. Deputy Minister for Works Godfrey Kasekenya has directed the Architects and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board (AQRB) to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies and expand public awareness campaigns to improve access to its services and increase understanding of its regulatory role.
Speaking during an inspection tour of institutions under the Ministry of Works in Dodoma, Mr Kasekenya said the Board should strengthen its digital platforms to make services, including those related to building permits, more accessible and efficient.
He said AQRB should also integrate its digital systems with those of other government institutions involved in the construction sector to streamline service delivery, reduce bureaucracy and improve coordination.
"The Board should increase its visibility through digital platforms, social media and stakeholder engagement forums involving the business community, professionals and political leaders so that more Tanzanians understand its mandate and can benefit from its services," Mr Kasekenya said.
He further called on AQRB to work with the government in preparing the proposed Building Act, saying the legislation would provide a stronger legal framework for the issuance of building permits and improve regulation across the construction industry.
The Deputy Minister also urged the Board to continue investing in staff capacity building, stressing that professionalism, innovation and adherence to ethical standards are essential for improving public service delivery.
Acting AQRB Registrar Architect Dr Daniel Matondo said the Board has continued to register architects, quantity surveyors, consulting firms and construction projects while expanding continuous professional development programmes for practitioners.
He said recent training sessions had been conducted in Arusha and Morogoro as part of efforts to enhance professional competence and maintain industry standards.
Dr Matondo added that AQRB has strengthened collaboration with regional and international professional bodies, including organisations within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), to promote knowledge exchange and improve the competitiveness of Tanzania's construction professionals.
