Finance Ministry's reforms driving Tanzania's Vision 2050

Tanzania's long-term development blueprint is no longer just a policy document but is increasingly taking shape through practical reforms being implemented across government institutions, Deputy Minister for Finance Laurent Luswetula has said.

Speaking after touring the Ministry of Finance pavilion at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Sabasaba, Mr Luswetula said the ministry's departments and agencies have aligned their programmes with the National Development Vision 2050, demonstrating how public institutions are translating the country's ambitions into measurable action.

His remarks come as the government intensifies efforts to implement the Vision 2050 framework, which seeks to transform Tanzania into a competitive upper-middle-income economy through industrialisation, innovation, digital transformation, sound public financial management and private sector-led growth.

Mr Luswetula said the ministry's exhibition at the annual trade fair illustrates the government's commitment to ensuring that every institution contributes to the country's long-term economic agenda.

"I am impressed by the level of preparation demonstrated by the Ministry of Finance. Every pavilion I have visited clearly reflects how the ministry's institutions are contributing to the implementation of the National Development Vision 2050 and supporting Tanzania's journey towards becoming a high-income economy," he said.

He noted that beyond displaying government services, the institutions are providing practical information on reforms that strengthen economic management, improve public service delivery and enhance transparency in the management of public resources.

According to Mr Luswetula, the exhibitions offer members of the public an opportunity to understand how government financial institutions are supporting economic transformation while creating a more efficient and accountable public sector.

The Deputy Minister also commended the ministry for accelerating the adoption of digital technologies across its operations, saying the shift is modernising public financial management and improving service delivery.

He said increased use of digital systems has significantly reduced reliance on paper-based processes, enhanced operational efficiency and strengthened transparency, positioning the ministry among institutions embracing global best practices.

"The ministry has shown remarkable innovation by embracing advanced digital technologies. This transformation improves efficiency, reduces unnecessary paperwork and enables our financial management systems to meet international standards," he said.

He added that digitalisation remains a critical pillar of Tanzania's broader economic reform agenda, enabling government institutions to deliver faster, more reliable and citizen-centred services while improving accountability.

Mr Luswetula further reaffirmed President Samia Suluhu Hassan's commitment to strengthening the country's investment climate through continued reforms aimed at making Tanzania a preferred destination for both domestic and foreign investment.

He said the government will continue improving systems, policies and institutions to ensure investors operate in a predictable and business-friendly environment capable of supporting sustainable economic growth.

"I invite local and international investors to seize the opportunities available in Tanzania. The government has created an enabling business environment and introduced various investment incentives. These reforms are intended to accelerate investment, stimulate economic growth and ensure the successful implementation of the National Development Vision 2050," he said.

The Ministry of Finance is among the key public institutions using this year's Sabasaba exhibition to showcase reforms in public finance, digital governance, investment facilitation and fiscal management, all of which are expected to play a central role in achieving Tanzania's long-term development aspirations.
