Finance Minister Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar will embark on a three-day working visit to Tanga Region to inspect strategic development projects, review investment opportunities and engage local stakeholders on the implementation of the 2026/27 national budget.
Ahead of the tour, the minister chaired a preparatory meeting attended by Acting Permanent Secretary and Accountant General CPA Leonard Mkude, Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Deputy Commissioner Mcha Hassan Mcha, senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and representatives from government institutions, including the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA).
The visit is expected to provide the government with first-hand insight into the progress of key infrastructure and economic projects while strengthening engagement with local communities on development priorities.
Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Omar said the tour is aimed at enhancing communication between the government and citizens by demonstrating how the recently approved national budget is being translated into development initiatives that support economic growth and improve livelihoods.
He said the itinerary will include inspections of strategic economic assets such as the Port of Tanga, industrial facilities, cross-border trade activities and public service projects, with a focus on identifying opportunities to stimulate investment and employment.
"The visit will enable us to assess the economic and social opportunities available in Tanga and examine how the national budget can support regional development through strategic investments, job creation and improved public services," the minister said.
The programme will also include discussions on the implementation of major projects in the region, including the expansion of the Port of Tanga, construction of the Tanga–Pangani–Bagamoyo road through Saadani, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), investments in education, health and manufacturing, and the promotion of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
In addition, the tour will review revenue mobilisation efforts by the Tanzania Revenue Authority as it works towards collecting more than TZS 41 trillion to finance the government's 2026/27 budget.
The visit forms part of the Ministry of Finance's efforts to monitor the implementation of national development programmes and strengthen coordination between central government institutions and regional authorities in delivering priority projects.
