The Deputy Secretary General of ACT-Wazalendo in Zanzibar, Omar Ali Shehe, has called on party leaders in Dimani Constituency to strengthen party structures at all levels, saying this is essential for building public confidence and enhancing the party’s ability to compete effectively in future elections.

Opening the ACT-Wazalendo Constitutional General Meeting for Dimani held on July 5, 2026, Shehe said strong grassroots structures remain the foundation of any political party that seeks to win trust and deliver meaningful change to citizens.

He stressed that branches, constituencies, and all leadership levels must remain active, well-organised and fully prepared to serve members and wananchi at all times.

“We must ensure our branches and constituencies have competent leaders who are always ready to serve their party,” he said.

Shehe noted that as senior party leaders near the conclusion of ongoing discussions aimed at addressing Zanzibar’s political challenges, it was important for members to focus on strengthening unity and organisational capacity within the party.

He said political dialogue alone would not bring change unless parties themselves are strong and well structured.

“According to the Chairperson, discussions to resolve the political impasse are nearing completion. But if the party is not strong, nothing will change,” he said.

Shehe further urged ACT-Wazalendo members across the country to protect and build on the achievements made in the struggle for political reforms since the introduction of multiparty democracy, commending the efforts of the party’s founding leaders, led by the late Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad.

He said important progress had already been made in uniting Zanzibaris in the push for reforms, adding that the remaining tasks require unity, discipline, and commitment from all members.

At the same time, he cautioned against complacency, warning that past achievements should not reduce the party’s efforts to strengthen its structures at all levels.

He said continued mobilisation and commitment were necessary to support the leadership of ACT-Wazalendo Leader Dorothy Semu and Chairman Othman Masoud Othman.

The meeting brought together senior party officials, including the Deputy Secretary for Organization, Training and Elections, Khamis Ali Salum; Chairperson of the Urban West Region B, Ali Juma Ali; Member of the National Executive Committee, Shuwena Faki Haji; and NEC Member Makkiye Juma Ali.

Dimani Constituency Acting Secretary, Khamis Hamad Kombo, confirmed that the meeting was quorate, with 76 delegates in attendance out of 117, representing 76.9 percent.

Earlier, a progress report on party activities was presented by the Dimani Constituency Planning Secretary, Abdalla Hamad Salum.
