Ubungo leaders visit Ruvu plant as DAWASA moves to boost water supply

Ubungo District leaders have toured the Ruvu Upper Water Treatment Plant to assess water production and distribution operations and explore solutions to persistent supply challenges affecting residents across the municipality.

The visit, led by Ubungo District Commissioner Albert Msando, brought together municipal councillors, CCM leaders from Ubungo District, and members of the security and defence forces as part of government efforts to improve access to reliable water services.

Speaking during the tour, Mr Msando said the visit was intended to provide local leaders with a clearer understanding of the factors affecting water supply and the measures being undertaken to address them.

He urged councillors to use the opportunity to identify challenges facing their respective wards and engage with DAWASA officials on ongoing and planned interventions aimed at improving service delivery.

Mr Msando also called on the Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA) to provide detailed updates on both short-term and long-term projects designed to strengthen water availability in Ubungo, while ensuring residents receive accurate information regarding the status of water services in their areas.

DAWASA Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Mkama Bwire, said the visit would help leaders gain first-hand knowledge of how water is produced and distributed, as well as the investments being made to meet growing demand in the municipality.

He said the authority was implementing a series of infrastructure upgrades, including the installation of new pumps at major production facilities to increase output and improve the reliability of supply.

“Six out of the eight pumps planned for installation have already arrived in the country, while the remaining two are being completed before shipment. Installation has commenced, with one pump already in place and work continuing on the others,” said Eng Bwire.

According to him, the upgrades are expected to significantly enhance water production and distribution efficiency, reducing supply constraints in several parts of Ubungo District.

The developments come as DAWASA continues to invest in expanding water infrastructure across Dar es Salaam to keep pace with rapid urban growth and rising demand for clean and reliable water services.
