The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring full electricity coverage in Tarime Town as part of ongoing efforts to expand reliable power supply and support local economic growth, including business activities and mining operations.
The Deputy Minister for Energy, Salome Makamba, said the Government through the Tanzania Electric Supply Company, TANESCO, is implementing plans to connect electricity to all remaining streets in Tarime Town so that no area is left behind.
She gave the remarks on June 8, 2026, in Parliament in Dodoma while responding to a question from Ester Matiko, who sought clarification on when electricity would reach all unserved streets in the municipality.
Makamba said Tarime Town has a total of 81 streets, out of which 54 are already connected to electricity, while 27 are still without power. She noted that work is ongoing to ensure the remaining areas are also reached.
She explained that out of the 27 unserved streets, a contractor is currently working in 13 streets where installation of electricity poles has already been completed, and preparations are underway for the next phase of wiring.
She added that the Government, through TANESCO, will continue rolling out electricity to the remaining streets depending on the availability of funds, with the aim of ensuring full coverage in line with the national electrification programme targeting universal access by 2030.
Makamba further emphasized that the Government is also working to improve the stability of electricity supply in Tarime Town by addressing frequent power interruptions, especially to support mining activities and other key economic sectors that depend on reliable energy.
