The National Sports Council (NSC) has handed over football jerseys to the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) for use during the upcoming UMITASHUMTA and UMISSETA games, in a move aimed at promoting school sports and nurturing young talent across Tanzania.
The jerseys were presented by NSC Sports Officer Adam Tunga and received by PMO-RALG Director of Sports Development Yusuph Singo during a handover ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Tunga said the support is intended to enhance students’ participation in sports, develop their talents and provide a conducive environment that enables them to pursue their ambitions of becoming professional athletes.
He noted that UMITASHUMTA and UMISSETA competitions remain important platforms for identifying and developing sporting talent among students, while also fostering discipline, patriotism and healthy lifestyles among young people.
“Sports are a vital tool for the development of children and youth. That is why NSC continues to work with various stakeholders to ensure that students have access to opportunities that help them develop their talents,” said Tunga.
He added that investing in school sports is crucial for building a strong pipeline of future athletes who can represent Tanzania in regional and international competitions.
Receiving the jerseys on behalf of PMO-RALG, Singo thanked NSC for the support, saying the equipment would boost participants’ morale and contribute to the continued growth of sports in primary and secondary schools.
He said the competitions provide students with an opportunity to showcase their abilities and lay the foundation for producing athletes capable of representing the country at various international events.
Singo further noted that, in addition to nurturing talent, the games are also serving as part of Tanzania’s preparations and awareness-building efforts ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Tanzania will co-host with Kenya and Uganda.
He emphasized that encouraging students to participate in sports is essential for developing a generation of athletes capable of competing at the highest level and raising Tanzania’s profile in the international sporting arena.
The handover reflects the continued collaboration between NSC and PMO-RALG in strengthening grassroots sports development and creating opportunities for young Tanzanians to realize their sporting potential.
