The Mining Commission has stepped up mine inspections across the country as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen safety, efficiency and environmental protection in the mining sector, with the goal of ensuring that mineral resources benefit both current and future generations.
Speaking on June 19, 2026, at the Public Service Week exhibitions being held at Chinangali Park in Dodoma, Mining Inspector Rose Mika said routine inspections conducted in large-scale, medium and small-scale mines are aimed at ensuring compliance with the Mining Act and the Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Regulations of 2010.
She explained that these inspections help to identify potential risks at an early stage that could endanger workers and nearby communities, allowing authorities to take preventive measures before accidents or environmental damage occur.
Mika noted that the Mining Commission continues to enforce environmental management plans in mining operations, including controlling water, air and land pollution, as well as ensuring that waste generated from mining activities is properly handled and disposed of according to established procedures.
She further said the Commission is closely monitoring the implementation of Mine Closure Plans to ensure that areas where mining activities have ended are rehabilitated and restored to safe and productive conditions.
According to her, these measures are essential in ensuring that the growth of the mining sector goes hand in hand with environmental conservation and the well-being of communities living near mining areas.
In addition to mine inspections, the Mining Commission is also regulating the use of explosives in mining activities, including their manufacture, importation, transportation and trade, in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
During the Public Service Week exhibitions, the Commission is also educating citizens and stakeholders on various opportunities available in the mining sector.
These include mineral exploration, extraction, processing, trading, and provision of services to mining operations, while encouraging compliance with legal requirements to support national economic growth.
