The Board of Directors of the Dar es Salaam Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (DAWASA) has carried out a field inspection across various parts of the city to assess the status of water supply services and review ongoing efforts to improve access to clean and reliable water for residents.

The inspection, led by Board Chairman Eng. Romanus Mwang’ingo, focused on evaluating service delivery performance and the progress of water projects aimed at addressing longstanding shortages in some parts of the city.

Eng. Mwang’ingo said the Board was encouraged by the improvements recorded in several previously affected areas, noting that water availability had significantly increased compared to earlier years.

“We have visited different areas and observed clear improvements in water supply services, especially in places such as Msakuzi, Mshikamano and Msumi, which previously faced serious shortages. The situation has improved and many residents are now receiving water more reliably,” he said.

However, he acknowledged that some areas still experience challenges, adding that DAWASA has already identified them and is implementing targeted interventions to ensure equitable and sustainable water distribution across the city.

He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to ensuring that DAWASA continues to strengthen service delivery in line with public expectations and government priorities on improving social services.

DAWASA Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Mkama Bwire, urged residents to take an active role in protecting water infrastructure and ensuring timely payment of water bills, saying this was key to sustaining and expanding services.

He said community cooperation remains essential in reducing system losses, improving efficiency and supporting ongoing investments in new and existing water networks.

Residents who interacted with the Board during the visit welcomed the improvements in water supply, saying the situation has changed positively compared to previous years.

Msakuzi Street Chairperson Miriam Kiuko said reliable water access has eased daily hardships and supported local development activities.

“Water supply has improved significantly compared to the past. Residents are now able to carry out their daily activities more smoothly. We appreciate DAWASA for responding quickly whenever we report challenges,” she said.

The visit forms part of the DAWASA Board’s routine oversight programme aimed at strengthening monitoring of projects and ensuring continuous improvement of water services in Dar es Salaam and surrounding areas.
