Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President, Wallace Karia, has hailed the 2025/26 NBC Championship season as the best since the competition was established, attributing the success to improved standards and strong corporate support.

Speaking after crowning Geita Gold champions following the conclusion of the season on Thursday, Karia said the league had registered significant progress in terms of competitiveness, organisation and overall quality compared to previous editions.

He credited much of the achievement to the National Bank of Commerce (NBC), whose sponsorship has helped elevate the profile of the second-tier competition and strengthen football development efforts across the country.

“The 2025/26 season has been exceptional. The level of competition has been high, the teams have shown great commitment and many of the challenges that previously affected the league have been substantially reduced,” Karia said.

He noted that NBC’s contribution extends beyond league sponsorship, pointing out that the bank has supported clubs in various ways and has also played a role in strengthening the national team setup, including financing a bus for Taifa Stars.

Karia congratulated Geita Gold for winning the championship and praised Kagera Sugar FC for earning promotion back to the Mainland Premier League.

“I also commend all 16 teams that participated in the competition. This season has been better than any before it, and our goal is to continue improving the league year after year,” he said.

The TFF president added that sustained collaboration between the federation, sponsors and clubs has been instrumental in addressing long-standing challenges that once hindered the league’s growth.

He said TFF remains committed to further enhancing the competition by improving governance, strengthening club capacities and attracting more investment into the game.

The NBC Championship has increasingly become a key platform for nurturing talent and preparing clubs for top-flight football, with the league playing a crucial role in Tanzania’s football development structure.

The successful conclusion of the 2025/26 season is expected to provide fresh momentum for the continued growth of the competition and the broader development of football in Tanzania.
