The leadership of the African Volleyball Confederation Zone V has expressed satisfaction with the strong turnout of beach volleyball teams that participated in the Zone V Africa Championships, which concluded on May 25, 2026, at Sawa Sawa Beach in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking after the conclusion of the tournament, Zone V President Naseeb Sadiki said the event brought together teams from Egypt, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Burundi and other countries, reflecting growing commitment among member states to the development and competitiveness of volleyball in the region.

He commended team officials for their dedication in ensuring participation of athletes, as well as match officials for their high level of professionalism in officiating throughout the competition.

He expressed optimism that the participating nations would continue to raise their standards ahead of upcoming international engagements.

“Zone V is the largest volleyball zone in Africa in terms of membership and talent depth. I am confident that Egypt and Kenya, in both the women’s and men’s categories, will succeed in qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles,” he said.

Sadiki noted that the championships formed part of broader preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Los Angeles, United States, adding that such competitions are crucial in strengthening regional competitiveness.

He also thanked Vodacom Tanzania for its continued sponsorship and support, saying the partnership has played a key role in the growth of beach volleyball in the region.

On his part, the Secretary General of the Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF), Laurance Safari, said the tournament offered valuable lessons in the organisation and management of beach volleyball events, particularly in enhancing technical and logistical standards.

He added that the presence of participating countries in Tanzania had helped strengthen unity, cooperation and friendship among athletes and officials throughout the championship.

“The federation is planning to introduce regular beach volleyball competitions to be held every month at Coco Beach in Dar es Salaam, with the aim of further developing and popularising the sport,” he said.
