Dar City exit BAL after narrow aggregate point difference

Dar City have been eliminated from the Basketball Africa League Basketball Africa League after a closely contested quarter-final tie against Angola’s Petro de Luanda, with the result decided on aggregate points in Rwanda.

The Tanzanian side started strongly in the first leg, earning an 88–82 victory and building a six-point advantage heading into the return match. 

Their performance raised hopes of a historic progression to the semi-finals as they controlled key phases of the opening game with disciplined defense and efficient scoring.

However, Petro de Luanda responded in the second leg with a much improved performance, winning 83–69. 

The Angolan champions overturned the deficit through strong defensive pressure and consistent offensive execution, ultimately securing qualification with a superior aggregate score across the two matches.

The two-leg format meant that both wins and total point difference were decisive. Although each team won one game, Petro de Luanda managed a larger overall scoring margin, which proved decisive in determining the semi-finalist.

Petro de Luanda Petro de Luanda will now advance to the semi-finals as they continue their campaign for the continental title, while Dar City’s journey comes to an end after a promising debut run in the competition.

Despite the exit, the Tanzanian side leaves the tournament with valuable experience gained from competing at a high continental level. 

The team is expected to return home and begin preparations for future domestic and international competitions, with the campaign viewed as an important step in the development of Tanzanian basketball on the African stage.
