The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in Pwani Region has seized 397 drums of cooking oil that were allegedly smuggled into the country through illegal entry points, in a night operation conducted in Zinga area, Bagamoyo District on May 1, 2026, at around 8:00 pm.

According to TRA, the consignment was being transported in a Canter truck when it was intercepted by enforcement officers acting on intelligence and routine surveillance aimed at curbing smuggling activities in the region.

The authority said the vehicle and the seized goods have been detained and stored at a customs warehouse as investigations and legal procedures continue to identify and take action against those involved.

TRA reiterated its commitment to intensifying anti-smuggling operations across the country, saying the move is intended to safeguard government revenue and protect local traders from unfair competition caused by illegal imports.

The authority further noted that strengthened patrols and coordinated enforcement efforts will continue in key border and transit areas to ensure compliance with customs and tax laws.
