Tanzania’s newly appointed Ambassador to Algeria, Mobhare Matinyi, has arrived in Algiers to officially begin his diplomatic responsibilities representing the United Republic of Tanzania.

Ambassador Matinyi arrived on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Houari Boumediene International Airport, where he was warmly received by senior diplomats and members of the diplomatic community.

He was welcomed by the Dean of SADC Ambassadors in Algeria, Ambassador Ndumiso Ndima Ntshinga of South Africa, together with Ambassador Toko Diakenga Serão of Angola and Ambassador Abdellatif Al-Layeh of Egypt.

He was also received by staff from the Embassy of Tanzania led by Acting Ambassador Suleiman Mussa Rashid.

Upon arrival, Ambassador Matinyi exchanged greetings with the diplomats present, marking the beginning of his official engagement with the diplomatic community in Algeria.

The reception reflected strong cooperation and solidarity among African nations and other diplomatic partners in Algiers.

Ambassador Matinyi was appointed by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan on April 24, 2026. Before his new posting, he served as Tanzania’s Ambassador to Sweden, based in Stockholm, where he had been serving since May 2025.

In addition to Algeria, the Embassy of Tanzania in Algiers is also accredited to represent Tanzania in Tunisia, Niger, Mauritania, and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

This broad mandate gives the mission a regional responsibility across North and parts of West Africa.

His arrival marks the continuation of Tanzania’s efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations, expand economic cooperation, and deepen political and social ties with Algeria and other countries under his accreditation.

He is expected to immediately begin official duties, including meetings with government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and Tanzanians living in Algeria.
