The State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) has joined workers across Tanzania and the world in marking International Workers’ Day (Mei Mosi) 2026, with the national celebrations held at Lunyanywi grounds in Njombe Town Council.

This year’s celebrations were held under the theme: “Decent Work is a Strong Pillar for Sustainable Development in the Implementation of Vision 2050,” a message emphasizing the role of fair, safe, and productive employment in driving long-term national development.

STAMICO’s participation in the national event, as well as in regional celebrations across its operational areas, reflects the corporation’s continued recognition of the vital role played by its workforce in strengthening the mining sector and supporting Tanzania’s economic transformation agenda.

Speaking during the celebrations, Senior Human Resources Officer of STAMICO, Ms Leah Jericko, said the corporation’s presence at both national and regional levels demonstrates its commitment to valuing employees as key contributors to institutional and national development.

She said STAMICO continues to recognize that its success in mining development, service delivery, and operational efficiency is largely driven by the dedication and professionalism of its workforce.

Ms Jericko added that participation in such national events provides an opportunity for employees to reflect on their role in nation-building while strengthening unity, teamwork, and commitment within the workplace.

She further thanked STAMICO management for supporting employees to attend and actively participate in May Day celebrations across the country, noting that such initiatives help boost morale and encourage a stronger sense of belonging among staff.

Ms Jericko also called on all STAMICO employees to continue working with discipline, hard work, integrity, and patriotism, saying these values are essential in ensuring the corporation achieves its strategic goals and contributes effectively to national development priorities.

She emphasized that decent work and a supportive working environment remain key drivers of productivity, innovation, and sustainable growth in both public and private institutions.

One of the outstanding employees of STAMICO for 2026, Mr Mark Magessa, expressed gratitude to the management for recognizing his performance and awarding him as a top-performing staff member.

He said the recognition motivates him to continue serving with dedication and commitment in delivering quality results to the institution and the nation at large.

Mr Magessa also noted that attending the May Day celebrations gave employees a valuable platform to learn from other institutions, exchange experiences, and strengthen professional networks across different sectors.

He added that such interactions help workers build unity and better understand the shared challenges and opportunities facing different organizations in the country.

International Workers’ Day is observed every year on May 1st as a global occasion to recognize the contribution of workers in driving social and economic development.

In Tanzania, the day brings together employees from different sectors to reflect on achievements, challenges, and ways of improving working conditions.

This year’s national celebrations in Njombe attracted participants from government institutions, private sector organizations, and trade unions, all united in promoting decent work and inclusive development in line with national goals.

STAMICO also extended its participation beyond the national level, with employees engaging in regional celebrations in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Singida, Geita, and Songwe, reflecting the corporation’s wide operational presence across the country.

Through its participation, STAMICO reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening employee welfare, improving working conditions, and enhancing productivity in the mining sector, which plays a key role in Tanzania’s economic development.

The corporation emphasized that investing in employees through training, motivation, and improved workplace conditions is essential for achieving efficiency and ensuring the mining sector continues to contribute meaningfully to national growth and Vision 2050 objectives.

As the 2026 Workers’ Day celebrations concluded, STAMICO joined other institutions in reaffirming the importance of decent work, strong labor relations, and unity among workers as key foundations for building a stronger and more inclusive economy for all Tanzanians.
