Simba SC staged a spirited comeback to defeat Coastal Union 2-1 in an entertaining NBC Tanzania Mainland Premier League clash at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga on Wednesday night.
Backed by a lively home crowd, Coastal Union made a dream start to the encounter after Maabad Maulid fired the hosts into the lead in the eighth minute, sending Mkwakwani Stadium into celebration.
The early goal forced Simba to raise the tempo as the visitors began dominating possession and piling pressure on the hosts in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 37th minute when striker Libasse Gueye calmly slotted home to level matters and revive Simba’s hopes before the break.
Simba completed the turnaround just a minute before halftime through Anicet Oura, who finished off a well-worked move to hand the Msimbazi giants a 2-1 advantage heading into the interval.
After the restart, Coastal Union returned with renewed determination and pushed numbers forward in pursuit of an equalising goal.
The hosts created several attacking moments, especially in the closing stages, but Simba’s disciplined backline and composure under pressure proved decisive.
Despite sustained pressure from the home side, Simba held firm until the final whistle to secure an important away victory and collect all three points.
The result strengthens Simba’s push in the title race as the Dar es Salaam giants continue their quest for success in the NBC Tanzania Mainland Premier League this season.
