President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi have purchased all tickets for the crucial Tanzanite Queens U20 World Cup qualifying match against Cameroon, allowing fans to attend the encounter free of charge.
The Tanzanite Queens U20 national women’s team will host Cameroon tomorrow at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar in the return leg of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier. The match is expected to kick off at 10:30 pm.
According to a statement released by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Communications and Information Officer Clifford Mario Ndimbo said the decision by the two leaders is aimed at boosting support for the national side as it battles for a historic place in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals scheduled for September this year in Poland.
He said the gesture is also intended to give more Tanzanians an opportunity to witness the high-stakes encounter and rally behind the young national team.
“This is not the first time President Samia and President Mwinyi have stepped in to buy tickets so that fans can enter the stadium free of charge,” said Ndimbo.
Tanzanite heads into the decisive clash seeking to overturn a 3-1 defeat suffered in the first leg played in Cameroon.
Meanwhile, Tanzanite U20 player Diana Mnally has urged football fans to fill the stadium and support the team, saying the players are determined to fight for qualification and make the country proud.
“We need our fans behind us because their support gives us strength and confidence on the pitch,” she said.
