Polisi Tanzania head coach Mbwana Makata has said his team is fully focused on delivering strong results in the remaining six matches of the NBC Championship as they push to improve their position in the promotion race.
Makata made the remarks shortly after Polisi Tanzania registered a crucial 2-1 victory over Songea United, a result that helped boost both their confidence and standings as the season enters its decisive stage.
The win saw Polisi Tanzania maintain third place on the table with 51 points. They remain in close pursuit of second-placed Kagera Sugar, who have 58 points, while leaders Geita Gold continue to top the standings with 61 points.
The tight gap at the top has set up a competitive finish to the season, with every match carrying significant weight.
Speaking after the match, Makata said the team is determined to collect maximum points from the remaining fixtures while also keeping an eye on goal difference, which could play a key role in final rankings.
He said the recent victory had lifted the morale of the squad, but stressed that consistency will be critical if they are to achieve their seasonal objectives.
“We are now focusing on making sure we perform well in the remaining matches and collect positive results that will help us achieve our targets,” said Makata.
Despite the win, Makata admitted the team did not fully capitalize on the scoring opportunities they created against Songea United. He noted that poor finishing prevented them from securing a more comfortable result.
He also acknowledged that the opponents provided strong resistance throughout the match, making it a demanding contest for his side.
“We created several chances but failed to utilize them properly. Even though we won, the match was not easy because the opponents gave us a tough challenge,” he said.
Makata further pointed out that defensive lapses remain an area of concern, especially after conceding a goal that he felt could have been avoided. He emphasized that such mistakes must be corrected quickly as the season reaches its climax.
He said the technical bench will continue working on improving both attacking efficiency and defensive discipline in preparation for the remaining fixtures.
With only six matches left in the campaign, the battle for promotion remains open, and Polisi Tanzania are expected to fight hard as they seek to close the gap and finish the season strongly.
