Some employees from the Ministry of Finance joined thousands of workers across the country in marking International Workers’ Day (May Day), with regional celebrations held at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma and the national event taking place in Njombe Region.
In Dodoma, government workers from different institutions gathered to celebrate the day, which is dedicated to recognising the contribution of workers in driving national development. Ministry of Finance staff were among those who took part in the colourful event, which brought together both public and private sector employees.
At the same time, other staff from the Ministry also participated in the national-level celebrations held in Njombe, joining workers from various sectors in highlighting the importance of labour in building the economy and improving public services.
This year’s May Day celebrations are guided by the theme: “Decent Work is a Strong Pillar for Sustainable Development in the Implementation of National Vision 2050.”
The theme underscores the need to strengthen decent working conditions, promote fairness in employment, and enhance productivity as Tanzania moves towards its long-term development goals.
May Day, observed every year on May 1, provides an important platform for workers and employers to reflect on progress made in improving workplace conditions as well as addressing challenges facing employees in different sectors.
It also allows workers to express their views on issues such as working environments, salary structures, benefits, and career development opportunities.
Workers across the country continue to call for improvements that enhance motivation and efficiency, including better workplace safety, timely payment of benefits such as leave allowances, and overall strengthening of labour welfare systems.
The participation of Ministry of Finance staff in both regional and national celebrations reflects the government’s continued commitment to engaging with workers and supporting efforts to improve public service delivery.
It also demonstrates unity among workers in advancing national development priorities.
The 2026 May Day celebrations highlight the critical role of decent work in promoting inclusive growth, strengthening institutions, and supporting Tanzania’s journey towards achieving Vision 2050.
