A report by a commission chaired by Mohamed Chande Othman into incidents of unrest surrounding Tanzania’s October 29, 2025 General Election has triggered nationwide debate, with analyst Netho Ndilito describing it as a key document with significant national value.
The commission was formed to investigate cases of breach of peace before, during and after the polls, and its findings have since drawn reactions from various stakeholders, including political observers, citizens and social media users.
Dr Ndilito said the report has brought new clarity to issues that had remained contested for a long time, noting that public discourse around the findings reflects growing awareness of the country’s political and social dynamics.
He said one of the major contributions of the report is its role in revealing facts that had not been openly discussed, helping to address concerns that had lingered in the public domain.
According to him, the findings also expose what he termed as misleading narratives that had been circulated by some actors, which risked distorting public understanding and fuelling tensions.
Dr Ndilito further noted that the report highlights the strong sense of patriotism among Tanzanians, many of whom, he said, continue to value peace, unity and national cohesion despite political differences.
He added that the document reflects the resilience of state institutions, pointing to the conduct of security agencies in maintaining order during a sensitive period.
Dr Ndilito commended Tanzanians for maintaining calm and unity, saying the country’s long-standing culture of peace remains a defining strength.
“Tanzanians have demonstrated a high level of political maturity and patriotism. This is our tradition as a nation,” he said.
The report continues to attract attention across the country, with observers viewing it as an important step towards strengthening transparency, accountability and trust in public institutions.
