Simba SC head coach Steve Barker has said his side anticipated a difficult contest against JKT Tanzania in their NBC Premier League match, following Simba’s hard-fought 1-0 victory.
Speaking after the game, Barker admitted the encounter was physically demanding, particularly because of the club’s busy fixture schedule in recent weeks.
“We knew it was going to be a difficult match. JKT Tanzania are a very competitive side and they fought for every ball from the first minute,” said Barker.
He noted that the opening half was tightly contested, with both teams battling intensely in midfield, making it difficult for Simba to establish their usual rhythm.
“In the first half they closed spaces well and made things difficult for us. At halftime we spoke about staying calm, improving our passing and avoiding losing possession cheaply,” he explained.
Barker said Simba showed greater composure and control after the break, allowing them to manage the game better despite late pressure from their opponents.
“I thought we looked more organized in the second half and controlled possession much better. But with only a one-goal advantage, the final minutes were always going to be tense,” he said.
The South African coach praised his players for their discipline and determination, adding that attention has now shifted to preparing for the team’s next league fixture on Sunday.
On the other side, JKT Tanzania head coach Ahmad Ally said his team paid the price for small mistakes made in the second half.
“We started the match strongly, but later lost shape in midfield and defense. Simba took advantage of the spaces we allowed and created dangerous chances,” he said.
Ahmad Ally admitted Simba’s experience and player quality proved decisive in the encounter.
“Simba have players with great quality and experience. Against such a team, even small mistakes can be costly. We fought hard, but they punished us when we lost concentration,” he added.
Despite the defeat, the JKT Tanzania coach remained optimistic, saying his side will continue working on improving consistency and competitiveness against the league’s top teams.
