By The Respondents Reporter

Tanzania and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic and diplomatic relations, with a special focus on enhancing transport infrastructure and logistics through the planned expansion of the Port of Dar es Salaam.

The discussions were held on April 14, 2026, at the Ministry’s sub-offices in Dar es Salaam, where the Director of Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador John Ulanga, met the Ambassador of Egypt to Tanzania, Sherif Ismail.

The meeting reviewed ongoing progress in economic diplomacy between the two countries and identified new strategic areas of cooperation, with emphasis on improving transport systems, maritime logistics, and trade connectivity.

A key highlight of the talks was Egypt’s interest in supporting the expansion of the Port of Dar es Salaam by contributing expertise and potential investment in shipping and logistics systems.

The initiative is expected to improve cargo handling capacity, reduce congestion, and increase efficiency at one of East Africa’s busiest ports.

Both sides agreed that stronger port infrastructure will enhance regional connectivity, lower the cost of doing business, and facilitate smoother movement of goods between Tanzania, Egypt, and other African markets.

The development is also expected to strengthen Tanzania’s role as a regional trade and logistics hub.

Egypt expressed readiness to share its experience in modern port management and large-scale infrastructure development to support Tanzania’s ongoing efforts to modernize its transport sector.

The cooperation is also expected to create new opportunities for investment, strengthen supply chains, and support industrial growth through improved logistics systems.

The engagement reflects the growing strategic partnership between Tanzania and Egypt, with both countries expressing commitment to turning discussions into practical projects that deliver long-term economic benefits for their citizens.
