Kigoma is expected to experience a major boost in business and investment opportunities as preparations intensify for the Lake Tanganyika Business and Investment Conference scheduled for April 15 and 16, 2026.

The conference is expected to bring together key stakeholders from Tanzania and neighbouring countries, creating a strategic platform to strengthen cross-border trade, investment cooperation, and regional economic integration around the Lake Tanganyika basin.

The Director General of TanTrade, Dr. Latifa M. Khamis, held a meeting with the Kigoma Regional Administrative Secretary, Mr. Hassan Rugwa, to review final preparations for the important event.

The discussions focused on ensuring that local communities fully benefit from the opportunities that will emerge from the conference.

A key emphasis of the meeting was on how residents of Kigoma Region can actively participate in and benefit from the investment and trade linkages expected to be created during the two-day conference.

The leaders also reviewed coordination measures to ensure smooth logistics, effective participation, and successful hosting of international guests.

Dr. Latifa Khamis commended the Kigoma Regional Administration for its strong coordination in welcoming international delegates.

She noted that participants from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi have already arrived in Kigoma, reflecting strong regional interest and confidence in the event.

She further highlighted that the conference will play a significant role in promoting investment, tourism, and trade opportunities within the Lake Tanganyika corridor, while strengthening economic diplomacy and cooperation between Tanzania and its neighbouring countries.

On his part, Mr. Hassan Rugwa said the region is fully prepared to host the conference and ensure that citizens directly benefit from the opportunities it will generate.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the regional administration to create an enabling environment for business growth and investment attraction.

He also encouraged local entrepreneurs, youth, and business communities to take full advantage of the platform to expand their networks, access wider markets, and engage with investors from within and outside Tanzania.

The Lake Tanganyika Business and Investment Conference is expected to attract a wide range of participants from the public and private sectors, with a strong focus on unlocking the untapped economic potential of the Lake Tanganyika economic zone and accelerating inclusive growth in the region.
