The government will launch the National Supply Chain Management Policy 2025 on April 8, 2026 in Dodoma, a move aimed at strengthening the management of public resources and improving efficiency in government operations.
Acting Commissioner of the Public Procurement Policy Department in the Ministry of Finance, Alex Haraba, said President Samia Suluhu Hassan will lead the official launch of the policy.
Speaking to journalists in Dodoma on April 4, 2026, Mr Haraba said the new policy is a strategic step to improve how the government plans, procures, stores and distributes goods and services within the public sector.
He explained that the policy will establish a comprehensive framework to guide all supply chain activities in government institutions.
The framework will cover several stages including planning for needs, public procurement, receiving and returning goods, storage and maintenance, use and distribution of items, and disposal of government assets.
Mr Haraba said the policy aims to strengthen transparency, accountability and efficiency in the use of public resources.
It will also ensure that goods, services and construction works procured by the government meet required standards, are delivered on time and offer value for money.
He noted that for many years supply chain activities in the public sector have been implemented through different laws, regulations and operational systems without a single guiding policy linking all processes.
“The development of this policy aims to integrate these activities so as to strengthen coordination and improve overall management of the supply chain system in the public sector,” he said.
Mr Haraba added that since a large share of government expenditure passes through procurement processes, strengthening supply chain management will help ensure public resources are used effectively while also supporting economic growth.
The policy also emphasizes the importance of good governance, increased use of technology in supply chain management and stronger participation of the private sector.
In addition, it seeks to expand opportunities for special groups in society in order to widen access to economic opportunities and employment among Tanzanians.
The policy further encourages the use of local resources and raw materials in the production of goods and services to support the growth of domestic industries.
Mr Haraba said the approach aligns with the National Development Vision 2050 which seeks to build a strong, competitive and inclusive economy that adds value to local resources and enables citizens to participate fully in production and economic development.
The government expects the implementation of the policy to strengthen discipline in public spending, improve efficiency in development projects, reduce wastage of resources and enhance delivery of services to citizens.
Mr Haraba also urged the public to support the implementation of the policy by upholding transparency and accountability in the management of public resources so that its benefits can reach all Tanzanians.
