Mtibwa Sugar FC has intensified its push for survival in the Mainland Premier League, with the club setting its sights on securing maximum points from the remaining fixtures to avoid relegation.
The Morogoro-based side has accumulated 27 points so far and is aiming to reach at least 33 to 35 points considered a safer margin to retain its top-flight status next season.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, the club’s Information Officer, Thobias Kifaru, said the team understands the weight of the remaining matches and has already put in place strategies to turn their fortunes around.
He said the survival campaign will begin with a crucial encounter against Azam FC on May 2 at KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam.
Kifaru noted that the squad is undergoing intensive training and remains in camp as part of final preparations for the decisive fixture.
“With ongoing renovations at venues in Morogoro and Dodoma, our match against Azam will be played at KMC Complex. We are going there with a clear mission to fight for all three points,” he said.
He admitted that head coach Yusuph Chipo has faced a challenging spell, with the team struggling to secure wins in the last seven matches, recording a series of draws and defeats.
Despite this, the club remains optimistic about reversing its form at a critical stage of the season.
Mtibwa Sugar is expected to leave its Morogoro training camp later this month and travel to Dar es Salaam as it prepares for what could be a defining moment in its battle to remain in the league.
