Azam FC and Simba SC played out a tense 0-0 draw in the Mzizima Derby at Azam Complex Stadium, Chamazi, Dar es Salaam, yesterday, leaving fans on edge as both sides battled for supremacy.
Azam head coach Florent Ibenge acknowledged Simba’s dominance in the first half but praised his players for a spirited comeback in the second half.
“Simba were strong in the opening 45 minutes, but our team responded well after the break, making the match competitive throughout. I want to commend both teams for their effort. It was a tough game, but earning this point is important for us,” Ibenge said.
Simba coach Steve Barker noted his side created several scoring opportunities but failed to convert them. He highlighted a powerful strike from Shomari Kapombe that was expertly saved by Azam goalkeeper Aishi Manula.
“These chances show we are creating opportunities, but we must improve our finishing. The result should motivate us to sharpen our attack in the coming games,” Barker said.
The stalemate keeps both teams level on the table, underscoring the rivalry’s intensity and the growing competitiveness of the Tanzanian Premier League.
