Firefighters in Dar es Salaam have managed to contain two separate fire incidents, saving a six-storey building in Masaki and 280 business stalls at the Mawasiliano (Simu 2000) market.

According to the Fire and Rescue Force, a fire broke out on the sixth floor of a building in Masaki but was quickly contained before it spread to other parts of the structure.

Acting Kinondoni Fire and Rescue Commander, ASF Jacob Chacha, said the blaze started from an air conditioning unit. One room and a living area on the sixth floor were damaged, but the rest of the building was saved.

The Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, visited the scene in Masaki after accompanying Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba during a visit to the Simu 2000 market area in Mawasiliano, where a separate fire broke out on April 4, 2026.

The earlier fire at the busy electronics market destroyed several structures belonging to small traders, though firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading further and saved about 280 stalls.

Katambi commended the Fire and Rescue Force for their quick response in containing both incidents and preventing greater damage, noting that investigations into the cause of the market fire are still ongoing.
