Dr. Mnyepe leads Tanzania at EAC peace and security meeting

Dr. Faraji Mnyepe, Perman Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and National Service, led Tanzania’s delegation at the 13th Joint Meeting of East African Community (EAC) Sectoral Councils on Defence, Peace, Security, and Foreign Policy Coordination. The meeting took place on April 1, 2026, in Nairobi, Kenya.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of past council decisions and assessed progress on key regional initiatives. 

Discussions focused on establishing an Integrated Early Warning System and advancing the Strategic Plan to involve women in peace, security, and defence efforts across the EAC. The role of civil society organizations in preventing, managing, and resolving conflicts was also highlighted.

Secretaries General further reviewed community awareness programs in border areas, emphasizing good neighbourliness and effective border management.

Deputy Secretaries from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa and Dr. Maduhu Kazi, attended on behalf of their principals.

The meeting concluded with the approval of a comprehensive report on discussions and decisions. This report will be presented at the ministerial-level meeting, where Tanzania’s delegation will be led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahamoud Thabit Kombo, in collaboration with the Minister of Home Affairs.

The meeting underscores Tanzania’s commitment to regional peace, security, and cooperation, reinforcing its role as a key player in advancing stability across the EAC.
