The 2026 Bunge Marathon held at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma has been described as an important platform for strengthening unity, promoting health, and boosting national productivity by bringing together government leaders, Members of Parliament, public servants, athletes, and citizens from different regions of Tanzania.
Speaking during the event, the Second Vice President of Zanzibar, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, said the Bunge Marathon has grown into a major platform that unites people through sports while strengthening national cohesion and cooperation.
He said the main objective of the marathon is to enhance collaboration between government leaders, including Members of Parliament, and citizens in order to promote tolerance, discipline, teamwork, and mutual respect in both public service and community life.
He added that the marathon is not only a sporting event but also a tool for promoting healthy living and social connection.
According to him, sports play an important role in building friendships and strengthening unity among people from different backgrounds.
He further encouraged Tanzanians to make physical exercise part of their daily routine, saying that a healthy population is a key foundation for national productivity.
He noted that citizens with good health are more capable of contributing to economic activities and supporting national development efforts.
He also called on Tanzanians to continue protecting peace, unity, and stability, stressing that development can only be achieved in an environment of harmony, respect, and cooperation.
The Speaker of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mussa Azzan Zungu, praised the participation of the Second Vice President of Zanzibar, saying it reflects strong leadership commitment to unity and national development.
He also appreciated sponsors of the marathon for their support, noting that their contribution ensured the successful organization of the event at a high standard.
He called for continued collaboration between Parliament and stakeholders to further strengthen future editions of the marathon.
The Chairman of the Bunge Marathon organizing committee, Festo Sanga, said the committee aims to expand the reach and impact of the event both nationally and internationally.
He said the marathon has become an important bridge connecting government institutions and citizens while also creating social and economic opportunities.
He added that the committee will continue working with professionalism, teamwork, and innovation to ensure the event maintains the dignity of the Parliament of Tanzania and continues to promote the country’s image globally.
The Chief Executive Officer of SILENT OCEAN LIMITED, Mohammed Soloka, the main sponsor of the marathon, said the company will continue supporting the initiative to ensure it grows in quality and impact. He said the partnership reflects commitment to promoting health and community development.
He also urged Tanzanians to adopt regular exercise habits, saying physical fitness improves both mental and physical well-being.
He emphasized that a healthy nation is a productive nation capable of driving sustainable development.
