TRA seizes illegal alcohol in Kagera Region operation

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in Kagera Region has confiscated 1,495 cartons of illicit alcohol along with four drums of high-proof spirits during a special operation conducted on March 25, 2026, on Gozba Island in Muleba District.

According to preliminary reports, the seized goods were smuggled into the country from Uganda in violation of customs procedures.

The products had not been subjected to the required tax payments and failed to meet the necessary quality and safety standards.

TRA officials stated that smuggling activities not only result in significant government revenue losses but also pose serious risks to public health and safety.

The authority emphasized its commitment to strengthening border enforcement operations and called on citizens to cooperate by reporting illegal activities. Such collaboration,

TRA noted, is essential in safeguarding the national economy and protecting communities from harmful products.
