Taifa Stars leave for Rwanda for FIFA Series 2026 tournament

The 23-manr Kigali, Rwanda to participate in the FIFA Series 2026, a tournament aimed at strengthening national teams through international friendly matches.

Tanzania will begin its campaign against the Liechtenstein national football team in an international friendly match scheduled for March 26.

According to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), the tournament provides an important platform for the technical bench to assess players and refine the squad as the team prepares for upcoming international competitions.

TFF Information and Communications Officer Clifford Mario Ndimbo said the participation is part of broader efforts to strengthen the national team ahead of major football tournaments.

He confirmed that striker Saimon Msuva will miss the tournament, with Abraham Morice called up to replace him. Meanwhile, Yusuph Kagoma and Bacca were left out of the travelling squad due to injuries.

Ndimbo said although the FIFA Series may appear to be a small competition, it plays a significant role in building a stronger and more competitive national team.

“This tournament may seem small, but it is very important for us because it gives the technical bench a chance to improve the squad and prepare well for bigger competitions ahead,” he said.

Midfielder Novatus Dismas said the players are approaching the matches with a competitive mindset despite the tournament being classified as friendly internationals.

He said the team is determined to deliver positive results while using the opportunity to build team cohesion and confidence.

“We are not treating these games as ordinary friendlies. We are taking them seriously and aiming to achieve good results for the country,” he said.

The tournament is expected to give the Tanzania national football team valuabl squad of the Tanzania national football team, popularly known as Taifa Stars, has departed foe match experience as the squad continues preparations for future continental and international competitions.
