Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba on Monday, March 9, 2026, officially laid the foundation stone for the Rukwa Vocational Secondary School in Majengo Ward, Namanyere, Nkasi District.
The landmark project, funded under the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Programme (SEQUIP) at a cost of TZS 1.6 billion, is set to strengthen technical and vocational education in the region.
The initiative aims to equip students with practical skills to promote self-reliance and contribute to Tanzania’s economic growth. Since its launch on December 20, 2024, the project has already utilised TZS 1.5 billion in constructing essential school infrastructure.
Completed facilities include eight classrooms and the administrative block, which are already operational.
The ICT and library block, staff housing, and boys’ and girls’ toilets have also been finalised and put to use.
Construction is ongoing for several other facilities. The carpentry workshop is at the electrical installation stage, the motor and mechanical workshop is in flooring and wiring stages, and four dormitories are at various stages of roofing and flooring.
Additionally, a laboratory is being fitted with plumbing and flooring, the dining hall is undergoing flooring and window installations, and a water tank is being connected to NAUWASA’s main supply.
The local community has been instrumental in the project’s success, donating 38 acres of land valued at TZS 38 million and a three-classroom building worth TZS 20 million, bringing the total community contribution to TZS 58 million.
The Prime Minister’s involvement underscores the government’s commitment to improving technical education and empowering youth across Rukwa Region, while the partnership with the community demonstrates a shared vision for sustainable development.
