The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Infrastructure has approved the Draft Budget and Development Plan of the Ministry of Works for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, a key step in accelerating the country’s infrastructure growth.
Speaking in Dodoma on March 24, 2026, Committee Chair Selemani Kakoso said the approval demonstrates the government’s commitment to building and upgrading modern infrastructure, which is essential for economic development and improving the daily lives of citizens.
The Committee also praised the Ministry for its strategic efforts to reduce traffic congestion in major cities.
Highlighted projects include the construction of flyovers in Dar es Salaam and interchanges in Dodoma, designed to ease traffic flow and improve urban mobility.
Minister of Construction Abdallah Ulega thanked the Committee for endorsing the draft budget. He assured that the Ministry would closely monitor all strategic projects to ensure they are completed on time, meet high-quality standards, and deliver tangible benefits to the public.
Minister Ulega added that several major road projects are advancing under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, including the Kibaha–Chalinze road (78.9 km) and the Chalinze–Morogoro road (84.9 km), both vital links for regional trade and transportation.
In addition, the Ministry plans to develop inner ring roads in Dodoma city to reduce congestion. The projects cover key routes connecting Dodoma–Iringa, Dodoma–Singida, Dodoma–Arusha, and Dodoma–Chamwino. Contractor selection is in its final stages, with construction expected to start soon.
These initiatives form part of the government’s broader vision to modernize transport infrastructure, ease urban traffic, and support economic growth, ensuring that citizens benefit directly from improved roads, safer travel, and faster movement of goods and services.
