In a bid to promote responsible reporting in the digital era, the Media Brains Institute has stressed the importance of adhering to ethical standards in online journalism.
Speaking at a training session for journalists in Arusha, Media Brains Executive Director Jesse Kwayu highlighted the pressing challenges of the digital age, including the rapid spread of misinformation and sensationalism.
The training, sponsored by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) of Germany, aims to equip journalists with the skills to report accurately and responsibly online.
"Fact-checking is paramount for online journalists to avoid spreading misinformation and facing legal repercussions," Kwayu emphasized.
"Online news should be concise, accurate, and relevant before being posted." Kwayu said.
Absalom Kibanda, Media Brains Operations Director, discussed the critical role of social media in journalism, stressing the need to verify information, including that generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI), before use.
Media Brains Executive Officer Nelvin Meena noted that while online journalism is on the rise globally, its ethical standards should mirror those of traditional media.
The training, which brought together 20 journalists from various media outlets in Arusha, is part of ongoing efforts to address the growing issue of misinformation in the digital age
