Prime Minister Dkt. Mwigulu Nchemba has directed the Ministry of Water to finalize the appointment of a contractor for the Chala Lake Water Project within two weeks. The project is expected to solve water access challenges across Rombo District, Kilimanjaro Region.
The Prime Minister made the announcement during a visit to Marangu-Kitowo Ward, where he also received updates on the construction of the Holili (Rotima)–Tarakea (Nayemi) road and laid the foundation stone for Stephen Moshi Technical Secondary School.
He stressed that the water project must start immediately to provide clean and reliable water to communities in the district.
Minister of Water, Jumaa Aweso, assured that the Ministry would fully support the project and confirmed that a contractor would be appointed within 14 days.
The Chala Lake Water Project is estimated to cost TZS 8.66 billion and will benefit over 34,000 residents across 14 villages in Rombo.
The Prime Minister also instructed the Ministry of Finance to secure advance funds for the contractor so that construction of the 52.8-kilometer Holili–Tarakea road can begin without delay.
This road, which passes along the Tanzania–Kenya border, is expected to boost social, economic, and tourism activities in the region.
Regarding Stephen Moshi Technical Secondary School, which will cost TZS 1.6 billion, Dkt. Mwigulu described it as a model of visionary leadership and strategic planning.
The school will feature modern classrooms, science laboratories, ICT facilities, dormitories, administrative offices, and essential infrastructure to support students and staff.
He highlighted that in a short time, over 103 schools of this type have been built across Tanzania, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving education nationwide.
These initiatives are set to significantly improve water access, education, and infrastructure in Rombo, marking an important step in the development of the region.
