The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Infrastructure has commended the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) for constructing road infrastructure that has significantly helped to save the lives of citizens in various parts of the country.
Speaking on February 11, 2026, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Infrastructure, Selemani Kakoso, praised TARURA during a training session for members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) and the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Infrastructure.
The training focused on improving the District Road Network, strategies, challenges, and opportunities for national development. The session was held at the Anne Makinda Hall in Parliament, Dodoma City.
Kakoso said that in his constituency, TARURA constructed a bridge in an area where residents used to lose their lives every year due to the absence of a reliable crossing. He noted that since the bridge was built, no deaths have been reported in that area.
“In my constituency, there is an area that had never had a road since independence, but TARURA has now constructed a road there, and citizens are benefiting greatly,” said Kakoso.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Regional Administration and Local Government, Florent Kyombo, acknowledged the government’s good performance in road construction in cities.
However, he advised TARURA to ensure fair distribution of financial resources so that other areas with pressing needs can also benefit from road infrastructure development.
On his part, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, assured committee members that all views and recommendations presented had been received and would be worked on by experts.
He emphasized that the goal is to improve efficiency in road construction so that citizens can fully benefit from the infrastructure.
Addressing disaster response efforts, TARURA Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Victor Seff, said that through the Crisis Management Window, Tanzania has been approved for an additional loan of USD 100 million to rehabilitate infrastructure damaged by the 2024 El Niño rains and Cyclone Hidaya.
Of this amount, USD 30 million will be allocated to district roads, while USD 70 million will be used for national roads.
