By The Respondents Reporter

The Minister of Health, Mohamed Mchengerwa, on February 11, 2026, met with pharmaceutical investors from Sartorius, a Germany-based company, who have expressed strong interest in investing in Tanzania’s pharmaceutical and medical devices manufacturing sector.

The meeting, held in Dar es Salaam, forms part of the Government’s broader strategy to attract quality investment in medicine production, with the aim of improving the availability, affordability, and quality of medicines for Tanzanian citizens.

Mchengerwa was accompanied by the Deputy Permanent Secretary responsible for pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, Mr. Emmanuel Tayari.

Discussions focused on opportunities for local drug manufacturing, production of medical devices, skills development, and technology transfer that will directly strengthen the country’s health system.

The initiative supports the vision of Her Excellency President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to create a friendly investment environment for pharmaceutical industries while reducing Tanzania’s dependence on imported medicines.

The Government has set a target to produce at least 80 percent of medicines locally by 2030, a move expected to lower costs, ensure consistent supply, and enhance national health security.

By attracting reputable international investors, the Government aims to create jobs for Tanzanians, support local industries, and ensure citizens have reliable access to safe and high-quality medicines.

The Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to prioritizing investments that deliver long-term benefits to the public and contribute to sustainable national development.
