Hamad Masauni elected Chairperson of Zanzibar MPs in Parliament

The Member of Parliament for Kikwajuni Constituency, Zanzibar, Engineer Hamad Yussuf Masauni, has been elected Chairperson of Zanzibar Members of Parliament in the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania, following a decisive vote that reflects strong public and parliamentary confidence in his leadership.

Masauni, who also serves as Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office, won the position with an impressive 99 percent of the total votes cast. 

The election was held during a special meeting of Zanzibar MPs in Dodoma on February 11, 2026.

This landslide victory demonstrates the trust placed in him to represent the voice, interests, and development priorities of the people of Zanzibar at the national level. 

As Chairperson, Masauni is expected to enhance unity among Zanzibar MPs, promote effective advocacy for citizens’ needs, and strengthen Zanzibar’s contribution to national decision-making.

Citizens can look forward to stronger representation in Parliament, improved coordination on development issues, and continued efforts to ensure that national policies align with the social and economic well-being of the people of Zanzibar.

Masauni’s election is widely seen as a positive step toward inclusive leadership, accountability, and people-centered governance within the United Republic of Tanzania.
