The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Units of the Ministry of Water and the Ministry of Energy have agreed to work together to strengthen oversight of water and energy projects, a move aimed at improving efficiency and ensuring citizens receive reliable and high-quality services.

The agreement was reached during a joint meeting held at the Ministry of Water Conference Hall in Mtumba, Dodoma, which brought together monitoring and evaluation experts from both ministries.

The collaboration will focus on harmonizing monitoring systems and conducting joint evaluations of project implementation to ensure public resources deliver maximum value to citizens.

Speaking at the meeting, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation from the Ministry of Energy, Ms. Anitha Ishengoma, emphasized that strong monitoring and evaluation systems are essential for translating government policies and plans into real benefits for the public.

“Monitoring and evaluation units have a fundamental responsibility to ensure that ministry policies and plans are implemented effectively so that citizens can access dependable water and energy services,” she said.

Similarly, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation from the Ministry of Water, Ms. Diana Kimario, highlighted that the two ministries have a long history of collaboration, particularly in the implementation of major strategic projects that serve both sectors.

She cited the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 2,115 megawatts, as a key example of successful cross-sector cooperation.

Ms. Kimario noted that strengthening collaboration between the two ministries will lead to better planning, closer supervision, and timely identification of challenges, ultimately resulting in faster project completion and improved service delivery.

This joint initiative is expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the implementation of water and energy projects, ensuring that citizens across the country benefit from sustainable access to clean water and reliable energy.
