The Minister for lands, housing and human settlements development, Leonard Akwilapo, has called on The National Housing Corporation (NHC) to intensify research and innovation in the construction sector to deliver quality, safe, and affordable housing for Tanzanians.
Speaking during an official visit to NHC, Minister Akwilapo emphasized that thorough research is key to reducing construction costs without compromising quality, while ensuring housing solutions meet the diverse needs of citizens across the country.
“Through scientific research and the adoption of innovative technologies, NHC can develop housing designs and construction systems that match citizens’ economic capacity, local conditions, and material availability,” he said.
The Minister also assured that the government will continue supporting NHC’s research and development efforts in partnership with universities, industry experts, and private sector stakeholders.
During the visit, akwilapo praised nhc management and staff for their role in advancing the government’s agenda for decent housing, noting that the corporation’s achievements reflect professionalism, accountability, and dedication among its employees.
Deputy Minister for lands, housing and human settlements development, Kaspar Mmuya, urged nhc staff to lead by example by building or owning decent homes themselves, highlighting that personal commitment reinforces the government’s vision for quality housing and economic self-reliance.
Mmuya added that NHC employees should be role models in implementing housing policies and discouraged any behavior that could undermine the institution’s credibility or mission.
NHC director general, hamad abdallah, assured the minister that the corporation will continue to implement its mandate effectively, align with government policies, and ensure all housing projects benefit citizens while contributing to sustainable national development.
